Introduction

OLN communities explore and test significant and emerging technologies (ET) and trends that affect e-learning.   So what are we doing?

Exploring Open Source Solutions

In an ongoing effort to explore, test, and provide access to promising technologies, the OpenLearning Partnership provides open source pilot hosting for Sakai and OSP ePortfolio at our Test Drive.

Shared Services Hosting

In an effort to reduce hosting redundancy across multiple learning technology platforms, the Ohio Digital Commons for Education (OLN, OhioLINK, Ohio Supercomputer Center) is working to bring you a suite of shared hosting services.

For detailed information on these programs, visit Shared Services Hosting.

WebCT CE Consortia Buy

The WebCT CE Consortia (now Blackboard) is made up of Ohio institutions that use WebCT Campus Edition. The Consortia exists to save money through bulk license purchasing and share resources.

  • Contact Mike McGee for information on license purchases or renewals.

This program has saved Ohio institutions more than $680,000 over the past seven years.

Second Life

OLN has an island in Second Life, a synthetic world where OLN members can be and build whatever you wish. Want to come to the Island and explore virtual worlds as educational tools?

Set up a free account, complete our Request for Access survey and join us on the OLN Island.

Questions? Contact Chris Collins, UC who serves as OLN's Second Life ambassador.

OLN/Smarthinking Statewide Initiative

Twenty institutions currently participate in the Ohio Learning Network/ Smarthinking statewide initiative in order to further promote students’ success and retention through 24/7 online tutoring access.

  • Contact Gail Peters for information on how to join the statewide initiative.

Participating institutions have realized more than $90,000 in cost savings, with more than 7,000 students having used the services.
